Falchions of this type are characterized by a more or less curved blade, a straight butt of the blade, partially or completely curved. The tip has an extension, but on the butt side the tip has a short, pointed bevel. Swords of this type may originate from the Muslim East, adapted to Europe. As the pictorial sources of 1280-1470 show. with classical knightly, and then with Renaissance handles.
A well-known example of this kind is the discovery of a falchion in the River Thorpe near Norwich, stored in the Museum of Norfolk, dated circa 1350
