The rider’s weapon. Leather, braided whip, whip, sometimes with several tails with different finishes. It was common among the Cossacks and the nomadic peoples of the Trans-Urals, Kazakhstan, the Volga region, Siberia, and Central Asia.
It is believed that the kamcha is the weapon of the rider, and it is usually soaked in the sweat of the horse, demons and all evil spirits are afraid to approach such a whip, and therefore the kamcha was hung at the head of young women. It was also believed that among the whips, yellow brass whips with a handle made of meadowsweet had a special magical power. The Tuvans say that “… shaitan is afraid of the man with the red kamcha, and the Kazakhs believe that “Satan is afraid of the yellow kamcha”.
The whip is the honor and pride of a male warrior, a symbol of courage and skill. A symbol of the elder’s power. There are several versions of the appearance of the whip. One of them connects the Cossack whip with the name of Khan Nagayey, or rather with the whole nomadic people named in his honor. The Nogais, like all nomadic peoples of the Turkic-Mongolian origin, were pastoralists and passionate horsemen, and therefore used whips.
Among many Turkic peoples, such a whip was called “kamcha”. There is another version, which is based on the historical change in the way the whip is worn: not on the belt, hand, elbow, etc., but behind the boot of the shoe, “at the foot”.
