(Ancient Greek πέτασος) — a sun hat with wide and flexible brims, common in Ancient Greece.

– Was made from felt, leather or straw. Could be held on a strap connecting the brims and passing under the chin.
– The petasos was worn primarily by shepherds, travelers and hunters, especially in Thessaly, often together with a cloak. Was considered an item of rural life.
– Along with the staff (kerykeion) and winged sandals, it was an attribute of Hermes, the ancient Greek god, who, among other things, was the patron saint of shepherds and travelers.
