Katzbalger (German Katzbalger “koshkoder”), aka Landsknetta (German. Landsknechtsschwert) is a short Landsknecht sword for “cat dumps” (melee) with a wide blade and a complex guard in the shape of an eight. Also known as landsknetta (“landsknecht’s weapon”). With a total length of 70 to 85 centimeters, the weight of the katzbalger ranges from 1.5 to 1.8 kilograms. Individual samples have larger or smaller dimensions and weight, while preserving other distinctive features and fall under the classification from a dagger to a one-and-a-half sword.
