SLAVIC HEADBAND – The term “ochelie” (also called “nachelnik,” “nalobnik,” “nachelok,” or “ochelush”) refers to a headband. It also refers to part of a headgear that covers the forehead, such as a “soroka” or “kokoshnik.”

The headband has multiple purposes: it serves as part of the wardrobe and also as a kind of protective amulet. It is used to secure hair, preventing it from getting tangled, falling into the eyes, or being disruptive.

The headband also securely holds a headscarf in place, completing the proper headgear ensemble.

On the temples of the headband, temple rings are attached—traditional decorations for Slavic women.

The headband provides protection against overheating or excessive cooling of the head. Additionally, it is a delicate ornament, long loved by young women.

Multicolored, embroidered headbands look elegant and stylish, and this lovely headpiece does not hide the beautiful hair of young beauties.

Headbands are also found as part of ceremonial attire, such as wedding, funeral, or festive clothing.
