Magerka (Polish. magierka from the Hungarian magyar) is an ancient Hungarian and Polish headdress, a felted white hat with a brimless crown with a lapel
, a Magerka was made of velvet or cloth and a feather was pinned to it]. In the XVII century, America was the headdress of noble people, but later it was also worn by the common people, replacing velvet or cloth with felt.
This headdress was also worn on the territory of Belarus in the Russian Empire, in Belarus the peasants called this headdress “mavgerka” or magerka.
In the XVI and XVII centuries, during the time of Stefan Batory, it became widespread in Poland as the main winter headdress for military personnel. The Magerka was often used by Polish winged Hussars.
