The Lucerne hammer is a variety of war hammer that originated in Switzerland in the late 14th century and was in the arsenal of European infantry up to and including the 17th century. The name comes from the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland. It represents a long (up to 2 meters) iron-bound pole with a combat part in the form of a pike up to 0.5 m long and a hammer at its base. The hammer was forged double-sided — one side in the form of a beak (spike) to perform hooking, the second in the form of a toothed hammer for stunning the opponent (like the coronet tip of a jousting lance), in some models of hammers the teeth were forged quite sharp.

A very effective and mobile weapon, despite its length. Due to the small volume of the striking part, it has practically zero wind resistance and strikes turn out to be fast. Thrusts with the pike turn out to be as swift as those with a spear, but at the same time there is the possibility of deflecting enemy strikes with the beak and the hammer of the striking part.
