The buckler, also known as the “fist shield,” was one of the most popular items among European duelists during the Medieval period. Despite its small size, it proved to be incredibly effective during duels and was actively used both for defense and as an offensive tool.

The key feature of the buckler is that, unlike regular medieval shields which were strapped to the forearm, the buckler was held by a special handle using a fist grip—hence the name “fist shield.” In battle, it was used for both defense and striking.
