Grossmesser, Grossmeister, Craigmesser (German. Gros Messer, Kriegs messer, lange Messer, Grossmeister) – literal translation: a large, military or long knife. It is a combat knife that has grown to the size of a sword. One of the most characteristic types of weapons of the Renaissance and modern times. Typical of the Kriegsmesser is the lack of a scabbard, they were worn with an open blade in the ring of the belt. Fighting knives were simple, modest weapons, and it was preferred to use landsknechts in the XV-early XVI century.
Despite its somewhat unusual shape, holding the grossmesser is quite comfortable and familiar. The long handle allows you to hold it with different grips, and the pommel in the form of a bird’s head does not allow the hand to slip off the handle even with a weak grip.
The ring on the guard gives additional protection to your hands from the enemy’s weapon slipping off your blade.
