The Lannisters are one of the great houses of Westeros, rulers of the Western lands. The Lannister coat of arms depicts a golden lion on a red field, and members of this house like to call themselves ” lions “and”lionesses”. In their power is the city of Lannisport — the main port of the west coast, the third largest city in Westeros.
Although the house’s motto is ” Hear my roar!”, it is rarely mentioned. A more widely known saying is, ” Lannisters always pay their debts.” Their lands are located in the western part of the continent, the lords of the house occupy the castle of Casterly Rock, built on a rocky promontory. The head of the house holds the title of High Lord of the Western Lands and Guardian of the West.
The Lannisters once ruled the Westlands as Kings of the Cliff, until Aegon I Targaryen defeated them in the Battle of the Flaming Field.
