Optimal hip protection for HMB. A similar type of limb protection prevailed at the end of the 14th – beginning of the 15th century. A convenient design that allows you to customize this element of protection for padding armor of almost any thickness.
Special attention is paid to the protection of the protrusions of the ilium and the femur – they are covered with large overlapping plates, which reduces the possibility of injury from an accidental impact.
One of the popular types of leg protection in the middle of the 14th century, it was sometimes used in parallel and in combination with chain mail hose.
Similar leg protection was used in conjunction with scaly foot protection and brigandine body protection. The hands were protected by Hourglass gloves, and the hands themselves were also protected by similar brigandine armor.
At the heart of the outer layer protection of the limbs are oblong iron plates splints riveted to a soft base so as to cover the legs without leaving gaps for striking. A long plate 1 mm thick distributes any strike quite well.
