The Bologna sword – a weapon that was popular in northern Italy (not only in Bologna), in the 16-17 centuries. This is the next stage in the evolution of a one-handed sword. The time when the sword is worn not only in war, but also in everyday life, as an element of a costume and a weapon of self-defense.
The characteristic features of the Bolognese sword are:
– the weapon is held most often by an overguard (This is a method of holding a weapon in which the index finger is situated over the crossguard) It was used not only in Bologna, but also in many other places.
– rather massive pommel, for better balance
– fancy crossguard, with rings – to protect the fingers when gripping an overguard. But at the same time, the “cup” type guards characteristic of the Spanish rapier are not found on Bolognese swords
– a rather short blade, convenient for inflicting injections and blows.
– low weight

In general, this is a status weapon for master swordsmen, which, paired with the same Bologna dagger, becomes a big problem for your opponent.
