Greyjoy is one of the great houses of the Seven Kingdoms. The Greyjoys rule the Iron Islands from their castle Pike on the island of the same name. Their motto is “We do not sow.” The head of the house traditionally holds the title of Lord Reaper Pike. Members of this house tend to have dark skin, black hair, and dark eyes.

The Greyjoys trace their lineage back to the legendary Grey King, a semi-mythical ruler from the Age of Heroes, but they only became high lords of the Isles thanks to Aegon the Conqueror. Nevertheless, the Greyjoys remain ardent adherents of the old law. This house has given the islands a lot of famous pirates, sailors and elected kings of the islands at the veche. The Greyjoys have rebelled several times against the rule of the kings of the Seven Kingdoms. In the course of the books, Balon Greyjoy proclaimed himself king, and the Greyjoys became the sovereign monarchs of the Iron Islands.
