Bag from Dordrecht. Model 5

Holland. Western Europe 14th-15th century

– Material: Cattle leather. Thickness 1 mm
– Dimensions: 22 x 22 cm
– Cast brass buckle.

– A typical medieval bag of the 14th-15th century with three compartments – a main rear and two external pockets.
– Made from the remains of a bag found in the southern Dutch town of Dordrecht, which stands on peat bogs, in which leather is relatively well preserved for hundreds of years. Many similar bags were found there.
– The front flap of this bag with a strap covers the opening of the first compartment.
– Two small pockets open under the outer compartment. They are made from a single piece of thin leather and, as usual, are drawn tightly with cords, sometimes with beads at the ends. Slightly above the pockets is the entrance to the main compartment.
