The witcher’s steel sword is given to Geralt by Vesemir after fending off bandits in the prologue.
Despite the fact that the steel sword deals the most damage specifically to humans, in Chapter I Geralt has to kill monsters with the steel sword.
In the prologue, Vesemir says that witchers have supplies of high-quality steel, but still the best foundation for a witcher’s sword is meteorite ore.
