The combat winged spear is a type of spear used for hunting wild boar. The tip of the spear is quite short, but at the same time heavy. At its base there are two “wings” (ears), which are designed to prevent the spear from penetrating too deeply into the animal’s body, so that the enraged beast could not attack the hunter.

The boar spear was also popular as a weapon for combat, since the “wings” of the tip can be used to engage the enemy’s shield, as well as to prevent the spear from penetrating deeply into the victim’s body (in particular, into the horse), facilitating the extraction of weapons and minimizing the risk of its breakage. The boar spear was used as a weapon until the beginning of the Middle Ages. In the 15th century, a variant of the spear with a longer shaft, called chiavarina, began to be used.
