Rondel is a dagger with a guard and a pommel in the form of disks, one of the most popular military daggers of the Middle Ages. The disc-shaped guard protect the hand from slipping on the blade during powerful punctures piercing through and protect the hand from blows by the blade of the enemy’s sword. The blade itself had quite different shapes, usually it was elongated and pointed on two sides or tetrahedral, although sometimes rondels with a trihedral blade were met – the forerunners of Italian stylets.
Daggers of this type were widely used from the middle of the XIV to the middle of the XVI centuries, although they may have arisen earlier
