Magierka (Polish: magierka from Hungarian: magyar) — an old Hungarian and Polish headpiece, a felted white hat crown without brims with a lapel
The magierka was made of velvet or broadcloth and a feather was pinned to it]. In the 17th century, the magierka was the headwear of noble people, but later common people also began to wear it, replacing velvet or broadcloth with felt.
This headpiece was also worn on the territory of Belarus in the Russian Empire, in Belarus peasants called this headpiece “mavgerka” or margelka.
In the 16th and 17th centuries, during the time of Stephen Báthory, it became widespread in Poland as the main winter headpiece for military personnel. The magierka was often used by Polish winged hussars.
