Kalkan (turk. Kalkan — shield) is a round shield, typical in the XVI—XVIII centuries in Persia, Turkey and Central Asia, and also used in Eastern Europe (Poland and Hungary). Similar shields were used in the east to Korea and China, their spread is associated with the Mongol influence.
