The Europian bastard sword is a type of sword of the period of the High and, in part, the late Middle Ages (or, more precisely, from about 1000 to 1350), used in Western Europe almost exclusively by the class of knights, and in Russia – in the princely army. The Romanesque sword is characterized by the presence of a fuller on the blade, which makes the sword lighter and improves its balance.
