The Tyrells are one of the great houses of Westeros, high lords of the Vastness. They were once only stewards in the service of the Gardener dynasty of kings of the Expanse, but after the conquest of Westeros, when the Gardener family was suppressed, Aegon I Targaryen made the Tyrells rulers of the region.

The Expanse is the second largest and most populous region of Westeros, so it’s no surprise that the Tyrells are second only to the Lannisters in wealth, and no one in the number of armies they and their vassals can field. The head of the house holds the ancient titles of Lord Highgarden, Protector of the Marches, and High Marshal of the Expanse, as well as holding the post of Guardian of the South.
