Baselard Dagger (LDPE)

The baselard (also spelled basilard, baslard; from Old French “badelare”, “bazelaire”; Middle High German ‘beseler”, “baseler”, “pasler” is a type of dagger and short sword popular in Europe from the first half of the 13th century through the 14th and 15th centuries.

The name “baselard” is a corruption of the German “Basler [Messer]” (“Basel knife”), tracing its origins to the Swiss city of Basel.

Emerging in Switzerland, baselards quickly spread across medieval Europe, becoming part of the standard knightly equipment by the late 13th century.
