Axe Type VI

45.00

Axe type VI by the typology of A.N. Kirpichnikov.
10th – 11th centuries. Ancient Russia, Scandinavia.

Options:
Axe width about 12 cm
Blade length about 10 cm
Blade thickness from 4 to 2 mm
Socket diameter 25 х 30 mm
weight about 250 gr.

Spring tempered steel, hardening 50 HRC
Matte polish.

Axes of type VI according to Kirpichnikov’s typology are a kind of beard-like axes with a blade drawn down and two pairs of lateral “cheeks”.
Among the finds of this type, “working” axes clearly prevail (155 specimens, of which 14 were found in complexes with spears, battle axes and arrows). The division into “workers” and “battle” axes is rather arbitrary. Too many axes really had a dual purpose.
