– A protected version of the Gladius sword type Mainz with the correct blade shape.
– The hilt also has the correct recognizable antique shape and the handle of the gladius fits comfortably in the hand.
– It differs from the historical artifact by a slightly shorter length.
– Gladius or gladium (lat. gladius) is an ancient Roman short double-edged thrusting soldier’s sword (up to 60 centimeters long (the length varied in different eras), worn at the right hip of enlisted military personnel so that the shield, which they held with their left hand at their left side, did not interfere with drawing it.
– Also the sword used to execute criminals began to be used instead of the ancient poleaxe for all executions, but previously it was only used to execute soldiers (mercenaries) of the Roman army. Presumably, it was borrowed (and improved) by the ancient Romans from the ancient inhabitants of the Iberian Peninsula and was, in variations, the standard infantry weapon in the Roman army until the 3rd century AD.
