“Federshwert”, “feder” (“federschwerth”) – special two-handed training swords that appeared in the middle of the 15th century in German fencing schools and were actively used in Europe until the French Revolution (1789). From the very moment of its appearance, the characteristic features of the Federshwerts were: a blunt blade and puandare (blunt blade tip), a “flared” blade (“blade heel”), and a flexible blade that allows thrust without danger of causing serious injury to an opponent.

Fencing on Federshwerts is now one of the main disciplines of HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) – the modern direction of fencing, which reenacts the European martial tradition of the XVI-XVIII centuries based on medieval fencing manuscripts (the so-called “fencing books”).
